My name is Sheila Summers, owner/artist of Summers Studio located in New Castle, Colorado. As an artist, I started with stained glass and decided to expand my artwork by incorporating fusing. I was hooked with the endless possibilities fusing glass offered. From pulling my own murrini and cane (glass rods), blending colors, patterns, textures and using different techniques to create my artwork.
I start with sheet glass that is cut into shapes, strips and different size pieces. The glass is arranged into layers and fused together in a kiln. While heating the glass it melts, moves and interacts with the other colors and layers creating unique reactions and depth.
I find glass fusing has a calming, balancing effect in my life but still offers excitement and passion with every piece. I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it.
